7 Days of Selfies:
A Simple Wardrobe Clarity Exercise
7 Days of Selfies is a simple outfit photo exercise I use with clients to help them understand their real wardrobe habits.
For seven days, you take one full-length photo of what you actually wear, no filters, no styling pressure and no need to look perfect.
The aim is not to judge your outfits. It is to see them clearly.
Because your everyday outfits tell the truth, they show what you reach for, what you avoid, what feels easy, what feels uncomfortable, and where your wardrobe may no longer be supporting the woman you are now.
Quick Answer
What is the 7 Days of Selfies exercise?
The 7 Days of Selfies exercise is a simple wardrobe clarity exercise where you take one full-length outfit photo every day for a week. It helps you see what you actually wear, which outfits make you feel confident, and where your wardrobe may need more direction.
What You’ll Notice
Why Take 7 Days of Selfies?
Most women think they know what they wear.
But when you photograph your outfits for seven days, you start to see your wardrobe very differently.
The 7 Days of Selfies exercise is not about being camera-ready. It is about awareness.
Over seven days, your photos start to reveal your real personal style habits:
Which jeans, shoes and layers do you reach for most?
Which outfits make you feel more confident
Which pieces do you keep wearing because they feel safe?
Which items stay in the wardrobe, unworn?
What is missing when you try to get dressed?
It is a simple way to stop guessing and start seeing. And most importantly, it removes the judgment.
You are not looking for perfect outfits. You are looking for patterns.
What Your Outfit Photos Reveal
We often think we know our style, but habits can blur the truth.
You may believe you have “nothing to wear,” when actually you are missing the right foundation pieces.
You may think your wardrobe needs a complete overhaul, when the real issue is that your jeans no longer work with your shape, your shoes, or your lifestyle.
You may keep reaching for the same jumper, jacket or pair of jeans because they feel familiar, even if they no longer feel like you.
When you take a daily outfit photo, you become more conscious of what is really happening.
You start asking better questions:
Why do I always reach for this pair of jeans?
Why do I avoid that jacket?
Why does this outfit feel more like me?
What would make getting dressed easier?
That is where the transformation begins. Not with more shopping, but with noticing.
My Own 7 Days of Selfies
When I looked back at my own 7 days of selfies, a few small but important things stood out.
Before I ask clients to look at their outfits, I always think it is only fair to do the same myself.
So I did my own 7 days of selfies, not styled for Instagram, not perfect, not overly thought through. Just real outfits from a real week.
And it reminded me of something important: your wardrobe is always telling you something.
Some outfits felt easy and completely like me. Some were nearly right but needed a tweak. Some showed me what I reach for again and again without even realising it.
That is the value of this exercise. It is not about judging yourself. It is about noticing what is working, what is missing, and what your clothes are quietly showing you about the woman you are now.
Try the Selfie Exercise
You do not need a perfect wardrobe to start. You just need seven days, your phone camera, and a little honesty.
For one week, take a quick mirror selfie of what you actually wear each day.
Do not over-style it. Do not change the outfit just because you are taking a photo. The point is to see your real wardrobe in real life.
At the end of the week, look back at the images and ask yourself:
Which outfits felt most like me?
Which ones felt comfortable but unfinished?
Which pieces do I keep relying on?
What am I avoiding wearing?
Where do I see gaps?
What would make these outfits feel more elevated, current or complete?
This small exercise can show you more than a wardrobe clear-out ever could, because it helps you see the patterns you miss when you are getting dressed in the moment.
Want help understanding what your outfits are telling you?
A 7-day selfie exercise can show you patterns you may not notice in the moment.
You might see that your jeans are doing most of the work, your outfits feel nearly right but unfinished, or you keep reaching for the same few pieces because the rest no longer feels easy.
Inside The Everyday Luxe Method, we look at what your real outfits are showing us, your denim, proportions, gaps, repeat patterns and the pieces that need to work harder.
So your wardrobe starts to feel calmer, more intentional and more like you again.
FAQS
-
No. In fact, it works better if you do not. The point is to capture what you really wear in an ordinary week, not outfits created especially for the camera.
-
No. This can be completely private. The selfies are for you to notice your own patterns, not for anyone else to judge.
-
You are not alone. Many women find outfit photos uncomfortable at first. Try to look at the clothes rather than criticising your body. Ask: Does this outfit support me, or is something not quite working?
-
Look for patterns. Which outfits feel like you? Which ones look unfinished? Are you wearing the same pieces again and again? Are your jeans, shoes, jackets or tops helping the outfit or holding it back?
-
You can use the photos to make small changes: better jeans, stronger shoes, a jacket that pulls outfits together, or a clearer outfit formula. And if you want deeper help, this is exactly the kind of work we build on inside The Everyday Luxe Method.
