Over the last week I have been testing a denim service called “The Denim Concierge”. It’s an exclusive service from denim e-tailer, The Raw Denim Bar. Four steps to finding the perfect pair of jeans, Is this possible? This is one service I have happy to try….
See above the instructions seem simple enough, so I take the plunge.
WHAT’S THE COST:
Firstly the service costs £20 ( it was free before 30th November) this includes free delivery through out the service. (The £20 is credited back when you purchase from The Raw Denim Bar )
If you live in Central London you will have the pleasure of a courier service delivering and picking up the jeans. If like me you live outside of London The Royal Mail postal service is used.
The Raw Denim Bar will pre-authorize your chosen credit or debit card £200 to take part in this exclusive service. Upon receipt of your returned jeans, The Raw Denim Bar will credit or charge you for the difference. I definitely suggest you read the small print before you commit to using the service.
THE QUESTIONNAIRE:
The questionnaire is said to be developed by Fit Experts and Fashion Stylists, a set of questions aimed at finding your unique denim personality, your ideal size, cut and wash preferences with these, TRDB is able to select 5 pair of jeans that will work for you!
There are nine questions all devised to find out your style and preference. It’s a fun and lighthearted way to get information on which styles are going to appeal to you. For me the last question about size is the most important, dress size, trouser size and denim size as these often are never the same. You do get a chance to add anything else you feel is important, this is when in my own words I was able to say what I felt they needed to know about me. I mentioned my body shape and this was not asked in the questions.

On submitting the form I was contacted the next day to arrange delivery of my 5 pairs of jeans, the credit card details are taken at this point.
THE DELIVERY:
The jeans arrived on the Tuesday, which arrived in 2-3 working days from submitting the form. I was pleasantly surprised at the selection of jeans sent to me which came in a flat square box with blue tissue paper. Here’s what was sent:

TRYING ON AT HOME:
I was eager to try on the 5 pairs to see how they fitted. The brands stocked at The Raw Denim Bar are US & Canadian premium denim and not widely available in the UK. As a self confessed denim addict being able to try on infront of my mirror and with a selection of shoes was a pleasure. I have strict rules when it comes to buying jeans with regards to fit which for me narrows down the selection quite quickly.
Here’s how the above jeans fitted my apple body shape:
1.The DL1961 Emma In Curacao were fantastic and really felt comfortable,( the best fit out of the 5 pairs) made from XFIT Lycra fabric they flattered my apple shape. However the colour really isn’t for me it reminds me of my old school jumper so it gets ruled out!
2.The Habitual Alice Skinny in Chianti was actually my favorite when it came out of the box but unfortunately didn’t look so on.
3. The Resin Ang in Slick Black, a lovely jean and so on trend. I really liked the detailing and the feel of the coated denim. The fit for me was large and I could of taken a smaller size but I tend not too wear black. (yes I know it’s a bit crazy but true).
4. The Work Custom Moto Coated Grey I had high hopes for as I was looking for a gray pair of jeans. But sadly the back rise was too low when I sat down.
5: The DOV Reverence Cord Knee Skinny in a bottle green was a surprise like for me. The fit is good, slim on the legs and a perfect leg length. I love the colour which looks great with most of my winter wardrobe. SOLD!
I would be lying to you if I said that was it…I spy with my little eye another possible jean on The Raw Denim Bar site. This time it was the Resin Lariat in Metallic Bronze!
THE RETURN:
I popped the 4 pairs of jeans into the pre-paid returns envelope and took them to the local post office, making sure I asked for proof of postage! It was as easy as that…
The Resin Lariat in Metallic Bronze was delivered a few day’s later but unfortunately were too big so it went back as well in the pre-paid envelope.
THE CONCLUSION:
The jeans that were sent to me were well thought out and apart from a couple of the colours very much my taste. It’s definitely a great way to shop for jeans if your not in too much of a hurry for a result. Meaning if you don’t get your perfect jean in the first delivery, it can take up to working week to get the exchange in the UK. (Next day delivery would be fantastic for outside London) However if your in Central London you can pre-arrange a delivery time and get a same day service….perfect!
I actually think this is a lovely gift idea and a hassle free way to shop for denim each season.
