TRIED & TESTED DENIM REVIEW

I was really excited to try this seasons new style from J Brand the Nikko skinny, as it has to be said I am a bit of a fan of the LA based brand. But as always the Tried & Tested review is about fit and function and an honest unbiased view.

So here we go…. I  blogged about the Nikko earlier this month, click here to read.

This week I popped into designer denim retailer Donna Ida to carry out my review on the Nikko. Jo Pratten Donna Ida’s in- house stylist suggested I team the Nikko with a Roseanna Fireworks Jacket in Multi Print (currently only available in-store) which I love!

The colour combination light vs dark works really well on this skinny jean as the dark panel in between the legs acts as an optical illusion of making the leg appear slimmer.  The front side zip pockets are faux to keep the silhouette nice and smooth.

For me the clever part is where the J Brand designers have added the dark panels, inside the leg and on the hips, just where a woman sometimes retains weight!

Leg Length: measures 29 inches which if you’re tall can sit nicely at the ankle.  For me being 5ft 2, I would definitely have the jean taken up an inch just to carry on that clean long line of the leg.

Leg Opening: 10 inches mean it’s a definite skinny leg!

The Rise: Front rise = 8 inches (mid-rise) The rise is an important issue when trying on all jeans, comfort is key when feeling confident wearing such a statement jean as the Nikko.

Equally as important is the back rise at 12.5 inches gives comfort and good coverage. (VPL isn’t a welcome look so grap a pair of Hanky Panky low-rise thongs)

The Behind: I’m not a fan of the “no back pocket look”, especially if the jeans are light in colour (too much for even the smallest of bottoms). So the back zip pocket as simple as it is, saves the day for me. (see image below).

When trying on the Nikko I got that familiar J Brand feeling of a soft slightly stretchy fabric similar to J Brand’s bestsellers the Houlihan, Jodhpur and Maverick style.

The Fabric: 7.5-Ounce Japanese Luxe Twill which feels soft with a slight stretch has 98% Cotton, 2% Lycra.  The Nikko comes in three colours Empress ( cream) and Black Widow ( solid black) Bright Royal (blue).

The Fit: The Nikko is a figure hugging skinny fit, that enhances the good, elongates and slims the leg at the same time. Sizes start at 23 to 32. That’s approx a size 4 up to a 14. Don’t be scared to try a smaller size than usual as this fabric does stretch slightly.

Function: For me the Nikko is a statement jean and perfect for a dinner date when you need to feel confident and in control!

Which Body Shape? I would definitely suggest the following body shapes try this style, Long & Leggy, Apple, Petite, Hourglass & Small Pear.  See know your denim for more infomation.

The Round Up Of The Nikko Skinny.

This colour block skinny is a girls best friend as it really enhances your figure. The mid-rise for my apple shape is the perfect height. The leg length is versatile for most body shapes but easily shortened. I wouldn’t normally be drawn to a light colour skinny but the dark panels giving an optical illusion of a slimmer leg makes this jean a contender!

The price, well it’s pricey at £300 however this is a statement jean that makes you feel( and look) tall and slim! We all want a magic pair of jeans in our wardrobe so if you look at the cost per wear, 5 wears of these magic jeans costs £60 per wear.

The Tried & Tested Score 9/10
