There is a general confusion when it comes to wearing turn-ups and I think you have to look at the variables. 1) What shoes will you be wearing, 2) What shape is the jean, 3) How old is the wearer.

There’s a rising trend at the moment to turn-up jeans and chinos to the ankle to show off your socks! 1. I am 52 with an inseam of 30”. Just bought Ralph Lauren jeans with an inseam of 32”. I want to turn up the jeans but my wife says that turning up is for younger people only and it suits them.. Is this true ?
If yes then what are my options as Ralph Lauren don’t do a 34/30. They only do a 34/32 unfortunately.

    • Hi Teepu, thanks for your comment. Yes for sure you can wear turn-up jeans as long as they are a skinny/ straight leg style. Alternatively you could get the inseam taken up and the original hem kept on if the hem is a feature of the jean it would be a shame to lose it. Don’t let age hold you back, jeans are to be worn at all ages! Sam x

  2. Depending on the shoe you are wearing there should be a slight over lap from shoe to hem. That’s the beauty of a turn up you can change the length with your different shoes!
