One trend you can’t ignore this spring/summer is the 70’s vibe! Having made a brief appearance last winter, they’re back with a vengeance this season, and, before you write it off as a trend you won’t be seen dead in, let me give you some stylist hints on how to make 70’s denim be your best friend this season…
If you’re reading this and thinking “I don’t wear jeans so how do I get into the whole 70’s trend” well, panic not because the trend isn’t just centred around jeans, it also includes the A Line Skirt… I love this Whistles wrap round skirt – the hem line is midi (aka calf length!) so make sure you wear a platform heel or wedge to avoid the frumpy look…
If you’re thinking of investing in a pair of kick flare jeans this season, look no further than J Brand Lovestory or the newly released Martini flare exclusive to Selfridges. J Brand use a high quality stretch which miraculously pulls everything, plus they keep their stretch so you don’t have to wash them after every wear! Because the flare starts from just below the knee, they make your upper thigh look really skinny – bingo – another tick in the J Brand box!!
Another sexy 70’s style is the MiH Marakesh Kick Flare
If you’re a brand conscious gal and want the latest, most talked about ‘must have’ then look no further than Mother Jeans – the American duo have invested in making their jeans look vintage 70’s and I think they are on the money this season…. Mother is available at Donna Ida.
The high street have also taken the trend by storm – I’m endorsing House of Fraser’s Biba high waisted wide leg jeans – the fit and quality are great and so is the price!
If you want to complete the 70’s look, opt for a silk pussy bow blouse (tucked in of course), belt and tan wedges. Or, just tone it down with a basic tee for an effortless look!
As a final thought, if you’re reading this and feeling faint at the thought of a Woodstock recreation on every street corner and think the 70’s flares are too extreme, dust off your bootcut jeans and don them with pride because they’re still holding their own in stores as we speak!!!
Until next time…..
