Free People has newly launched into the UK – lucky us! The story behind the brand is wonderful. It all began in the 1970s when Dick Hayne planted a seed in the maze of streets and trees that make up West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He opened a store and called it Free People which nurtured the young people who lived and shopped there and who craved freedom in the clothes they wore.
As Dick’s store grew from one to two, the name was changed from Free People to Urban Outfitters and we’re all familiar with that one right?!
Over time, a wholesale line was created which took on many personalities: Bulldog, Ecote, Cooperative, Anthropologie and then in 1984 Free People was reborn and today – it is a label I highly covet.
Brimming with creativity, individual style and all at accessible price points, Free People caters to women who are confident, adventurous and proud with a range of items to choose from. but today – I give you my top six jean styles to see you through autumn / winter and into spring / summer next year.
The Statement Jean
Printed Corduroy Skinny, £68.00
Printed skinny corduroys have a figure flattering stretch fit and the tartan-inspired print adds a fresh and up-to-date addition to your wardrobe.
The Boyfriend Jean
Oil Stained Destroyed Boyfriend Jean, £248
Boyfriend jeans are oversized, laid back and super comfortable. This distressed style sports holes in all the right places and oil stains all over. Butch them up further with bulky boots and a gorgeous cashmere crew neck.
The 70s Tribute
Cord Killer Super Flare, £128
Paying homage to the decade in which it all began, these stretch corduroys with extreme flare silhouette are slim fitting through the thigh and flare out right below the knee making them a top buy for curvy women, apple shaped and top heavy women as the flare will help balance out your curves by creating a more evenly balanced silhouette. Available in tobacco, a soft caramel shade and night sky as pictured.
The Skinny Jean
Embroidered Patch Skinny Jean, £158
5-pocket skinny jeans with beautiful embroidered front pocket embellishment to add a modern take on a classic cut. I love the rich blue shade and, thanks to the stretch denim – most body shapes will suit these as they have a little ‘give’ in them and therefore don’t fit too closely but do give a stunning shape to slim legs.
The Crop Jean
Mademoiselle Slim Tapered Crop, £168
Cropped jeans are ideal for winter or summer and look amazing worn with statement heels or chunky ankle boots. This distressed blue denim style is slim-fitting, tapering down towards the bottom with stitch seam detailing at each inner knee.
The SS13 Investment
Chambray Floral Dungarees, £98
Invest ahead of next season with these cutesy distressed wash chambray dungaree shorts with floral pattern all over. Dungarees have been spotted at Fashion Weeks and on street stylers all over the world so I predict it could be a big trend for next year. Hey, any excuse to buy these gorgeous shorts!
