Different models wearing grey jeans.

Grey denim maybe a strange choice for a seasonal trend but it’s already kicked off on the runways at Ulla Johnson, Isabel Marant and Rag & Bone Spring Summer shows. (top right).

It’s definitely an accessible trend as you may already have a pair of grey jeans in your wardrobe already, I do! So why has this grey denim basic been elevated to become a spring trend?

Why Is Grey On Trend?

It’s all because of the Pantone Colour Of The Year – PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating Vibrant Yellow. The Ultimate Grey being ‘practical & rock solid’ and the yellow ‘warming and optimistic’.

Now we know why Grey has become such an important colour for Spring lets look at which colours will go with it.

Pastel Colour Tops

Neutral Colour Tops

Keep it neutral & soft by teaming with all shades of grey.

But how do you know which grey suits you?

My good friend Fiona Ingham Image Consultant at House of Colour tells us which grey is best for each colour season. ( time to have your colours analysed?)

There are versions of grey for all seasons. The right grey is a good neutral to coordinate with all the colours in each seasonal palette.

Springs have a range of dove greys from the palest to the deeper mid grey.

Summer greys are soft, never dark, and can have a blue look.

Autumn greys are the hardest to find. They have a green or slightly brown look and their House of Colour name is lizard grey.

Winters have a wide range from the palest through all the steely greys to the deepest charcoal. ‘
