Alteration services

Just like people - jeans sometimes need a nip & a tuck.
However when your jeans are premium denim you need to ensure the alteration service is premium too.

Ilovejeans.com offers an alteration service to online customers.
However we must stress that the service should only be used by customers that have bought the same style before so they know their size and the correct measurement for the alteration. On booking your alteration an estimated date of when you will receive your jeans will be given. Please note using this service is at the customers risk as ilovejeans.com will not be able to exchange items or refund once alterations have been made.

Price guide: shortening the hem £15

Alteration Services at the Private Consultation
When having a private consultation the stylist will pin the jeans being purchased at the end of the session. Some of the brands stocked on the online shop have an inseam of 34”.

So they may fit perfectly everywhere but the leg length may need tweaking depending on the customers height. We ask the customer to bring a selection of footwear so the jeans can be pinned accordingly to the heel height needed. The stylist may suggest other alterations depending on the jean and the fit.

Want to keep the Original Hem?

Stateside it’s called a “tricky hem” or a European hem”. In the UK we call it the “American” hem. It’s a way of shortening ones jeans and keeping the original hem intact by re-attaching it after shortening.  It’s a great way to keep the original look of the jean if the bottoms are faded or frayed. This can be an expensive alteration as it takes longer than standard hemming.

Alteration Service check list
If you decide to take your jeans elsewhere to be altered please follow the ilovejeans.com check list to ensure your new jeans are handled with care.

  • If the fit is great but the legs are too long then definitely get them altered by a professional tailor or seam mistress.
  • Ask to try on the jeans for the tailor to see where the jeans need altering and to pin.
  • If you’re unsure the job will be done properly ask to see the tailors work.
  • When going for a fitting take a selection of shoes with you so the tailor can pin your jeans to the height of the shoes you will be wearing. Ilovejeans.com recommends that you keep the length as long as possible as length gives a slimmer silhouette to the body.
  • Ask to see the colour of the thread the tailor will be using if you are having the hem altered.
  • Explain to the tailor the reason for the alteration if you have pinned the jeans at home.
  • Always be clear about what you are expecting from the service.
