MY DENIM JOURNEY: ONE WOMAN’S LOVE………

I have been Twitter friends with @theladywilson for sometime now and she often Tweets about her love for fashion and her weekly covet. As we have the same obsession for great denim, when she tweeted a picture of her six strong collection of the Current/Elliott Stiletto Skinny all neatly folded, I wanted to know WHY?

MY DENIM JOURNEY by Kitty Wilson

I have always been a curvy girl but I do love my skinny jeans and like many women out there, I faced the common problem of finding the ‘right one’. I have tried many brands over the years and I kept facing the same problem – whilst it fits nicely on the hips, it’s too loose on the waist or vice versa!

I have a penchant for prints (leopard prints especially!) and coloured jeans and that’s when I heard about Current/Elliott as the infamous must-have Stiletto leopard-print skinny jean. Widely seen on editors to fashion bloggers during the Europe Fashion Week in March 2011! Conveniently, my birthday falls in April and in April 2011; my husband decided to buy my first pair of Current/Elliott’s.

So I went to MATCHES boutique in Wimbledon, one of my favourite shops in London, the sales assistants are always so friendly and helpful. It was the Current/Elliott Stiletto leopard-print jeans in ‘camel’ colour I was after, so I tried on a couple of sizes and VIÒLA, I finally found the one! The size 27 fits me like a glove; fitting on the hips and waist and most importantly, it lifted my bottom which makes me feel really sexy in them! That was my very first pair and I haven’t looked back since!

I received so many compliments whenever I wore those Current Elliott leopard-print jeans and within a couple of months they launched the ‘sapphire’ colour. I fell in love with the sapphire leopard-print straight away when I saw them in Selfridges and then, there were two. Later the same month, MATCHES had a sale and the Current Elliott/Stiletto skinny in ‘aquamarine green’ became my third acquisition.

One of my favourite colours is purple. So when I was shopping in Selfridges one afternoon and the mannequin had a ‘purple’ pair of Current/Elliott Skinnies on so needless to say, they came home with me later that afternoon! Number 4!

Fast forward a few months later, the tie-dye trend was in and I fell deeply in love with the Current/Elliott Stiletto in ‘cosmic’. So, I did the right thing by paying Selfridges a visit….. they never seem to disappoint. This became the fifth pair.

Then, came the rise of the floral trend. The last (but not least!) pair, the Current/Elliott Stiletto in ‘red rose’. Colourful floral prints, what more could I ask for?! And that was my sixth pair.

Kitty styles her Stiletto’s with a green tee from Zara, Marc Jacobs shoes, Pink sweater from ACNE, River Island boots and Louis Vuitton necklace.

I always look upon Current /Elliott as ‘statement’ jeans so I tend to wear a plain over-sized tee or sweater and let the jeans do the talking.

KITTY’S STYLE TIPS

Don’t forget to accessorize with statement jewellery, bag and a nice pair of shoes to complete the look! Do experiment with prints and colours as fashion is all about being adventurous!

I love all my Current/Elliott jeans to bits and I strongly believe the ‘red rose’ will not be my final pair. I have my eye on a basic pair of blue ones at the moment which I will acquire very, very soon.

GUEST BLOG: MY DENIM JOURNEY BY THE ONLINE STYLIST.

My Denim Journey….

Amanda Start-The Online Stylist.

Through meeting Donna Ida and after signing up for the Jeans for Genes 5k run in September (more of which later), I’ve recently gotten to know Sam from I Love Jeans.com when she asked me to guest post over at her blog about my own denim journey, I couldn’t wait to put something together. Whilst investing in great denim is always something that I’ve extolled the virtues of on my own blog, it’s a mantra that I didn’t follow until I took a trip to NYC three years ago and had my first experience of how shopping for jeans should be whilst loitering in Bloomingdales.

I find it’s an ever evolving process because back then I wasn’t aware of the hidden benefits of the mid and high rise jean. Sadly, in my over excitement at buying my first two quality pairs, 7 For All Mankind if you’re wondering, I overlooked the fact that they were low rise. I think had I let the sales assistant into the changing room with me and shown her how they looked UNDER the sweater I was wearing, she may have educated me right there and then! For an apple/pear cross shape such as myself, I deem mid or high rise to be essential – once you’ve experienced the almost magical streamlining abilities you’ll never go low again.

So my ongoing mission is to build a denim wardrobe of the best quality I can afford in the shapes that are right for me. Progress to date includes MiH Boyfriends in a pale wash, J Brand 814 Cigarette leg jeans in dark blue, James Jeans Hunter straight leg in black and my most recent acquisition from the Net-A-Porter sale, a pair of Citizens of Humanity Avedon Slick Jean Leggings for winter. The aforementioned  7 For All Mankind boot flares and mid wash straight legs will both need to be replaced with mid or high rise at some point.

I feel that all these were worth investing in straight off the bat. For some of the more trend led styles I tend to look towards the high street as I can’t afford to invest in every style that I want to wear. This way I get to enjoy the cropped brights and flares that are everywhere this summer without upsetting my bank manager too much. It’s worth taking a look at what suits your own shape in amongst the seasonal trends as the flares really work for me so for my next denim investment I would definitely consider a pair. I’m currently living in these Washed Skinny Flares, £15 from Dorothy Perkins.

For quality denim with excellent service and fitting advice to match I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Donna Ida. If you’re a first time denim investor, an appointment at her Denim Clinic is an absolute must. The Net-A-Porter Denim Boutique is also a great resource to tap with advisers at the end of the phone to assuage any lingering doubts on style and cut. For high street steals Dorothy Perkins offer excellent ranges as do Topshop and New Look.

If you’re still unsure about finding the right jeans for you, I highly recommend browsing I Love Jeans – they have an excellent section on Shopping For Your Shape. They also offer a Denim Stylist Service that trawls London to find the perfect jean… so you don’t have to.

Armed with new found knowledge I challenge you to go forth, find your perfect jeans and report back!
